My name is Alex Burnley, and I am currently a Software Engineer at HigherEchelon. I was a student at CU Boulder, where I earned a bachelors degree (2020) and master’s degree (2023) in computer science. My interests include video games, scuba diving, martial arts, and snowboarding.
At HigherEchelon, I am part of the gaming and simulation team developing serious games. This has provided me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, which have all had interesting challenges to solve. This has ranged from integrating a Linux VM with Unity for a cybersecurity game prototype to designing the architecture of a baseball simulation to even data visualization. I always enjoy solving new problems, so I’ve enjoyed all the interesting projects I’ve been able to contribute to here!
During my time at CU Boulder, I have gained valuable experience in computer science from classes, personal projects, and an internship at Visa Inc. I have worked with C, C++, Java, Scala, Python, and others. I used these languages to implement programs that covered topics ranging from low level networking, multi-threading, artificial intelligence, object-oriented programming, and more. At Visa, I built a module to manage data encryption in databases using Java and the Spring framework. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot during the internship.
Of all the areas in computer science, my favorite is game development. It combines many technical and creative fields, so there are always interesting problems to solve and I get to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. I look forward to continuing to develop games in the future!
